New Checker Sedan Manager Marks a Trio of Personal Milestones
Spring, sandwiched between year-end holidays and warm weather vacations, is usually a busy time for most people. New Checker Sedan Manager Atul “Ricky” Grover has just had, perhaps, the busiest and most personally significant spring of his life.
All within the month of March 2007, Grover sold his independent business to Checker Sedan, welcomed his first son, and became a U.S. citizen.
The owner of a four car operation covering the downtown Detroit area, Grover first learned of potential Checker Sedan opportunities from the Marriott hotel’s manager. “A good friend of mine, he told me that Checker Sedan was searching for someone to manage its downtown office,” explained Grover. “I’m doing largely the same job I did before selling the business to Checker Sedan, but now I have the backup and anticipated growth of a much bigger company.”
Grover can also count on a more predictable schedule – important to a man with a growing family.
“On March 23, my wife gave birth to our second child, Roy Renato. He joins our two-year-old daughter, Ameya Radha Nancy,” he proudly reports.
Just days after welcoming home his son, on March 29, Grover officially became a U.S. citizen during a ceremony at Dearborn’s Byblos Restaurant. “I was born and raised in New Delhi, India and immigrated to America in 1994 – for what was supposed to be a short time,” laughs Grover.
Thirteen years later, he is achieving his American Dream. Welcome Ricky!
Checker Sedan Offers New Option for Mid-Size Groups

Any good tailor will tell you it’s all about the fit. Checker Sedan understands the concept of a precise fit and now offers customers a new option to best “suit” them.
Checker Sedan’s Commuter Express fleet recently introduced a mid-sized coach that seats 29 passengers. This size bridges a key segment between 23-passenger mini-buses and the much larger 56-passenger motorcoaches.
“The price is also in between,” touts John Brummeler, Commuter’s Director of Sales for group transportation. “This GM vehicle is ideal for group airport transfers where 20-29 people arrive on the same flight; a daylong golfing trip for a dozen players with golf bags in tow; local or regional touring where an on-board restroom will not be missed; or just small groups heading to Cedar Point for the day.”
Mercedes-Benz Brings Women’s Professional Golf to Kansas City
One hundred forty of the finest up-and-coming female golfers recently hit the links in Kansas City. The event, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City, brought professional women’s golf back to the city for the first time in more than 20 years.
Held at Leawood South Country Club, the tournament was part of the Duramed Futures® Tour. The tour, founded in the 1980s, holds tournaments in cities throughout the U.S. and serves as an official training ground for future Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) players. Proceeds from the May 15 – 20 event benefited the National Kidney Foundation of Kansas and Western Missouri.
“The best players from 42 countries, including Iceland, Zimbabwe and Vietnam, attended the Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City Championship golf tournament in 2007,” says Erin Royer, the dealership’s Business Development Manager. “These women will become the household names of the future. We are honored to bring them to our community.”
According to the local magazine, 435 South, national golf commentator and Kansas City resident Roger Twibell commented, “By adding the Mercedes - Benz of Kansas City Championship this year, the Kansas City area continues to show its strong support for golf.”
Soave Goes to the Dogs…and the Cats
The city of Romulus takes pride in providing outstanding services for its citizens. With a generous donation from Soave Enterprises, the city will be able to offer the same care to its four-footed residents. The company has contributed $5,000 to aid Romulus with the development of a new animal shelter. Specifically, the donation will fund the building’s conceptual design by professional architects.
“This gift truly helps us pull all the pieces of the project together,” explains Tim Keyes, Romulus’ Director of Economic Development. “Through community-based fundraising, we have raised nearly $100,000 to build the shelter, plus generous in-kind donations from many local businesses. However, we lacked a tangible plan to begin moving forward. Soave Enterprises’ contribution allows us to take the next step toward our goal.”
Planned for city-owned vacant property south of the Department of Public Works facility, the new animal shelter is anticipated to be at least 4,500 square feet and cost approximately $800,000 to complete. The bidding process is expected to take place this fall, with construction beginning spring 2008.
“The city of Romulus began exploring this project in 2003, when Councilman Bill Wadsworth focused public attention on the unfortunate state of the current animal shelter,” says Tom Turnbull, Vice President, Soave Real Estate Group. “When we learned of Councilman Wadsworth’s on-going personal effort to raise funds for the shelter, we felt compelled to assist the city – and its animals.”
