Strong Steel Products
Strong Steel Products was constructed in 1997 as one of the world's first "megashredders," capable of fragmentizing and metallurgically separating a complete breadth of mixed metallic obsolete scrap, including appliances, automobiles, and steel fabrications at a rate of 440,000 pounds per hour.
These miscellaneous scrap items are crushed and reduced to fist-sized pieces, with (a) the iron and steel stream upgraded for delivery directly to remelting steel mills and foundries, (b) the nonferrous metals stream concentrated for delivery to an affiliate's nonferrous metals separation facility and (c) the remaining waste stream delivered to the landfill.
The Strong Steel Products facility also houses one of the industry's first comprehensive environmentally friendly scrap vehicle decommissioning operations, including removal of fluids, batteries and terminals, mercury switches, refrigerants and catalytic converters. All materials are recycled to the maximum extent possible.
