Anthony Soave has always been one to find solutions to difficult problems. Thanks to his impeccable work ethic and creative thinking, Soave has been able to tackle business challenges as they come and to find a successful answer when others do not. As Anthony Soave’s company, Soave Enterprises, began to grow, so did the diversity of his projects. One project in particular is a great example of Soave’s ability to find creative answers to deliver what the customer needs.
Rising to the Challenge
Early in his career, Anthony Soave took on a demolition project for American Electric. The project involved taking down three 700-foot smokestacks at the American Electric power plant in Madison, IN. The trick was, the smokestacks needed to be demolished while the plant was still generating power, a tall order.
Each of the three tapered smokestacks was 60 feet in diameter at the base, ending at 15 feet in diameter at the top. To complete the job effectively, the Soave team needed to create a scaffolding set-up that would enable the crew to get the job done at both ends of the stacks.
To figure out this challenge, Anthony Soave studied the stacks and the demolition process and devised that expandable scaffolding would allow the team to move down the smokestacks effectively. To catch the demolition rubble as the teams moved down the stacks, I-beams on springs were constructed at the 200-foot mark to hold a timber and steel plate. The design was effective, and Anthony Soave hired an engineering firm to draw up the official design so he could present it to American Electric. It took American Electric half a year to decide to give Soave the contract.
Once he was able to begin the project, the team was only able to demolish three feet of smokestack a day, but by the end of the project they had increased to almost thirty feet per day.
Continuing the Creativity Today
Anthony Soave now acknowledges that it was one of his more challenging contracts, but he is proud of the work his team did and the ingenuity they had to create such an effective and unique demolition process. For Soave, obstacles are rarely a deterrent, in fact, he often welcomes a little challenge. Challenges provide Anthony Soave and his team at Soave Enterprises the chance to show what makes them truly unique and the opportunity to stretch outside the box and come up with new and innovative concepts. Whether it is by completing an unusual project, meeting specific client requests, or taking on a struggling business and building out its potential, Anthony Soave has a gift for delivering great results from challenging situations.
